So! As I might have told you guys, though I honestly can't remember if I did, I am currently in the 2nd oil painting class in my journey of being a painting major. My first oil painting class did not go well, I was very into doing washes of color...such as one would do when using water colors...which does not work very well. I got a C. Good LORD was I bummed out.
Now I'm in my second oil painting  class and y'know what? I actually feel like I'm hitting my stride! It took me about halfway through the semester to make stuff that I'm getting pretty excited about! So here are two WIP that are noooot at all done but that I'm getting pretty psyched about! XD

Hello! So, of course, I'm a flop with remembering to post on here regularly, so here's a bit of a catchup.

I was back in the oil painting studio actually painting for the first time in quite some time yesterday and I think I began quite an exciting journey! I've been a bit obsessed with organs in general over this summer and decided I was going to try and paint them once I got back in school. Well, there is a heart! You guys have no clue how excited I am about this. I literally did a happy dance when it got to this point cause I was so jazzed about it. The background's gotten a bit screwy since this point, but this is my favorite state of it, and I think I'km going to try and do some messy abstracted backgrounds on another few. For some reason the human heart is so incredibly gorgeous to me. I'm not sure if it's the fact that it's something we literally NEED to survive, or that it's all gory and bloody and gorgeous. Either way, I'm super exited to continue this series and just kind of explore what can happen with it.

....part of the problem with me actually making posts is that I'm so consistently worried with them having to be about my art. And that is just not at all true. Like, this is my blog guys, I can just word vomit all over the place! Hooray for finally realizing it!

  Today was one of the hardest days of my life. Today I officially said goodbye to one of the main men in my life, my grandfather. My Papa passed away Tuesday morning surrounded by his wife, children, and me, the eldest grandchild. The spouses and other children came over soon after and joined us in our grief. While technically he left us on Tuesday, today was his wake. And it felt like it was finally time to truly say goodbye to my Papa.

Hello Humans!
I AM SO CLOSE TO SUMMER! I can almost taste it (lemonade, fresh cut grass, hot dogs, and pool water in case you were curious). I have a ridiculous amount of stuff to do...so much...so much stuff guys...I'm terrified. I have about 6 or 7 paintings to finish up for my oils class, so many papers, and a vessel for metal smithing (and guys, I am no metalsmith...it's not my thing...).
HOWEVER, I am super excited to be closer to summer cause that means more time for the art I wanna do! Huzzah!
Some of the stuff's I'm working on. The two copper bowl looking images are my vessel project for metal smithing. The one with all the black lines is for my chasing. Which best I can tell is when you fill a metal vessel with wax and then punch in bits of it. It's a good stress reliever.


The green and pink/blue paintings are portraits I'm working on. The green one was a study and I'm beginning the final piece tonight. The pink one, the painting portion is done and I'm now adding a bunch of texture through embroidery...so we'll see if I like it...













Finally this loveliness on the bottom is my figure in the environment piece...still majorly in progress..

Overall I'm super happy with the volume and quality of stuff I've been churning out this year. I'm not to a point where I feel AT all like I know what I'm doing, but it's a lot of fun :).

  I'm generally a very indecisive person. No more is this true than what I'm about to do. I'm back on blogger! XD. I switched to wordpress for a while. Thought it was fine...but eh...not what I wanted or needed. So it's home again home again jiggity jig. And with a new name! Oooh lala! While I loved the name Crims0nScarf, it never felt final to me. It always felt like something that was just a placeholder until I figured it out. Well my public, I have now figured it out!
  So time to catch up. Well, I started college out with a major in art thinking I'd go into photography since I couldn't do any other sort of art. Then I switched to art ed cause I really felt a calling on my heart to do that. And yet...at the beginning of this semester, it didn't feel right. I didn't feel like teaching is what I need to currently be doing. And while it might be a slightly more stable job, why would I geta  job doing anything but what I'm passionate about? So I switched yet again. Back to art this time with an emphasis in painting. If you had asked me 5 years ago if I'd ever thought I'd be prepping to be a painter I would have laughed in your face. If you had asked me 8 months ago if I had wanted to be a painter I'd have thought you were insane. But good golly miss molly I freaking love it.
  Last week I was killing myself in the studio working on paintings and ideas, as we only have 2 weeks left (internal screaming and panic). But within this week of freak outs, I found a new appreciation, and sort of addiction, for painting. I'm not always 100% focused (I'm currently writing this instead of painting if that tells you anything), however, I feel in a weird sort of calm storm. I feel all sorts of ideas and craziness swirling around my mind, but as I paint, it makes me happy. Much happier than I've been in a long time.
  I've started doing portraits of close friends and messing around with mediums on them. For some reason this gives me even more insight into who these people are. I'm able to actually look at them without distractions or people or having to hide the fact that I'm sketching them. I can see all their imperfections and it is GLORIOUS.
  I hope to post a few pictures once this semester is over of some of my finished work. In the meantime, welcome to the new and improved Crims0nScarf. The Ooddities.

This is an embroidery piece I'm doing with a few succulents. Pictured here are just the very beginning stages. But even that little succulent took quite some time!
These two are hand carved stamps that I put onto muslin so that I can embroider around the quotes. I have to wait for them to dry before I go wild on them, but I assure you it will look AWESOME!

  Well friends, it's 1 AM where I am. Should I be up? Heck NO! But every once in a while I get a creative frenzy. I'm not sure if this is something that happens to every artist or if I'm just bonkers. I was laying up in bed. Quite content. Playing around on my computer (Pinterest and the like) with my lil guy passed out next to me when all of a sudden I got the itch. The itch that can only be cured by staying up all hours and doing SOMETHING. I have been working on embroidering a t-shirt of mine and it's kinda been at a standstill. So I grabbed my computer, headed downstairs, and got to work. I finished a great majority of the t-shirt before I got disastrously tired. I also watched a few ted talks on creativity (man they are good. I pinned a few to my artist videos board on Pinterest if you wanna check um out here).
  Now if I don't go crash I am going to fall asleep with my sketchbook and embroidery needles. I'll give you guys some more info on my crazy frenzy's in the morning. Tata!

  I know, I know, I'm dreadful at this blogging thing. But I actually have been working my tail end off :). If you guys ever check my Instagram or Facebook  you might see some of the stuff I've been up to. But just in case...



  So this is the progression of a piece I made for the Together We Can charity auction in Wamego KS. I had a piece I was going to finish and give, but then the idea for a wreath popped up and I decided to go for it! THANK GOD I finished it in time for the auction. I painted a white canvas in acrylic paint and then went over it with some watercolor drips. Each of those lovely flowers was painted with watercolors and then cut out and glued down onto the canvas. With those little flowers I cut out each one individually, so needless to say it took quite a while. But I really love how it turned out :)
  So yeah that's what I've had going on. I'm thinking of making a few more flower wreaths. Any thoughts?

The finals hell is finally over! Whoopee!!!! I turned in my last paper earlier today and man do I feel free! I am so stinking excited to be done for the semester! Granted, I do have to take some classes this summer, but not near the full load I take during the school year. SO I HAVE FREE TIME!!! WOOHOO!! This means days at the pool with my mini man and days in the studio with my mini man and maybe even a mommy vacation with some friends or something. This is EXCITEMENT! So I will hopefully be talking to you guys even more than usual, which yes I'll admit really isn't much lol.
HOORAY FOR SUMMER!

  Well, today's been a sort of crummy day. In reality it's been fine there's just been this cloud of funkitude hanging over me. Really bums me out. But ANYWAY. Inspiration for today, hmm....
  As cheesy as it is today I'm going with nature. Now I'm not just talking your usual flowers and such {although I do love a good flower}. I have a particular love for succulents. A few reasons why:
A-They are ridiculously hard to kill.
B-They are ridiculously easy to care for.
C-They don't pollinate and therefore my allergies aren't trying to kill me.
D- They're very good houseplants without feeling like houseplants
E-THEYRE PRETTY.

  Adorable, no? They're perfect for tiny planters, hanging planters, funky planters, really anything. {Yes I realize there are some cacti in there. While I have none yet I do aspire to get some}.

Films
Oh my I love films. There are some films that I have seen that, to be honest, just speak to my soul. Sounds ridiculously cheesy, I'm aware. But there are some things that make me want to be creative and get me all sorts of excited!

For instance, this new The Little Prince trailer. You can find it here. I am SO STINKING EXCITED. I get the fact that it may be a children's movie. This does absolutely nothing to deter my excitement. A lot of people have heard or red the story of The Little Prince. From what I know it's a pretty common occurrence in most high school french rooms. If not, it's the story of a little prince who lived on a planet scarcely bigger than himself, and the pilot who finds him in the desert and sits quietly to learn his story. A very whimsical and wonderful tail. Perfect for crazy minds like mine who simply can't stand normality. The movie's take on this classic story seems to be that there is a little girl leading an exceedingly normal life. She then meets her eccentric old neighbor who tells her the story from when he was a pilot of when he met the little prince. Book lovers all over seem to be going back and forth on wether this will be good or not. Personally, I think it's a wonderful adaptation. Keeping true to the story and themes from the book, but giving the production team a whole other story to get to create for the first time and mix in with such a well known tale.

Another film I'm constantly obsessed with is Amelie.
